HealthEquity UI

HealthEquity came to us to help them create an online tool for employees to compare health plans. We worked with them to build a webapp that is intuitive to use and presents complex information in a simple and fun way.

This webapp is easy for our client to manage on the backend, allowing them to easily create custom plan groups for employers. Once a link is published employers share this with their employees or HealthEquity can run the app on an iPad at health fairs.

We wanted this to feel fun and engaging and have an element of gameification to it. We used the family icons that HealthEquity uses in several of their marketing pieces and pulled in icons for each of the main benefits of each health plan. The backend runs a series of calculations to choose which icons to display based on how the plans stack up against each other. We also present the bottom line for each plan and show how the math works out to get there. Plans are awarded one, two, or three stars depending on how suitable they are for each family.

Our client had this to say about the project:

“Our challenge was to make a very complicated concept seem approachable and simple while at the same time resolving misconceptions of a “high-deductible” health plan so that users realize the many benefits of a HSA-qualified plan. The proof is in the math, but no one likes numbers. Sawaya Consulting helped us develop a tool that required very little user input yet powerfully communicated mathematical calculations while making it fun and easy to understand.”
